2020 YOUNG AFRICAN LEADERS AWARDS CATEGORIES

Established in 2019 by African Youth Architects

1- NELSON MANDELA’S HUMANITARIAN AWARD (Category opens to Africans only)

Mandatory Criteria
The award for Humanitarian was created to honor the late South African president, a global icon for peace and freedom NELSON MANDELA for his outstanding leadership for human rights and development. Mandela have contributed greatly to development and human rights across Africa and the whole world.
This Award is presented to an individual who has shown active civil involvement and a commitment to peace building and making the lives of those around them better. AYA humanitarian is a driven community and national leader who exemplifies altruism.

Failure to meet these criteria will result in the nomination being deemed ineligible.

2- YOUNG WOMEN OF INNOVATION AND LEADERSHIP AWARD (Category opens to Africans only)

Mandatory Criteria
Young Women of Innovation and Leadership Award is presented to recognize young African women leaders in their professions, often entrepreneurial, and inspirational to their peers. The award focuses on young women in the trenches of STEM fields who may be rising in their career or well-established in their professional lives. This young woman may be shaping the future of Africa or serving as a role model for their fellow young women and girl thinking about careers in technology, science, and engineering.
The Award embraces the vision of AYA to empower young woman and to inspire young African girls to be part of the Change.

Failure to meet these criteria will result in the nomination being deemed ineligible.

3- KWAME NKRUMAH’S VISIONARY LEADERSHIP AWARD (Category opens to Africans only)

Mandatory Criteria
The Award for Visionary Leadership was created to honor the late influential advocate of Pan-Africanism, freedom fighter, and first Prime Minister and President of Ghana Kwame Nkrumah for his outstanding visionary leadership and dedication to the united Africa. This award is the highest recognition that the AYA bestows upon an individual who has exhibited exemplary leadership that benefits young people in Africa and encourages active participation of young people in decision making.

Failure to meet these criteria will result in the nomination being deemed ineligible.

 

4- FIRST-GENERATION ENTREPRENEUR (Category opens to Africans only)

Mandatory Criteria
The first-generation entrepreneur is an entrepreneur who is not in the same line of business as his/her parent. They should have started the enterprise on their own initiative, idea or innovation”.
An entrepreneur must be a founder/co-founder of an enterprise.

Failure to meet these criteria will result in the nomination being deemed ineligible.

5- MODEL AFRICAN DIASPORA AWARD (Category opens to Africans only)

Mandatory Criteria
Africans worldwide Diaspora represents an important asset the continent has.
Model Africa Diaspora Award honour notable African in the Diaspora in recognition of his/her interest in, and support to the advancement of Africa both on the continent and abroad.

Failure to meet these criteria will result in the nomination being deemed ineligible.

6- UNIVERSAL PEACE AWARD (Category opens to all nationalities)

Mandatory Criteria
The universal Peace Award honour individuals or organizations that have made a significant contribution to towards the attainment of world peace.
This person embraces the AYA spirit of “Youth for Peace”

Failure to meet these criteria will result in the nomination being deemed ineligible.

7- HEALTHY AFRICA AWARD (Category opens to Africans only)

Mandatory Criteria
The Healthy Africa Award will go to a youth organization working to improve health outcomes in Africa. The organizations work has empowered residents to fight for change that will lead to healthier lives.

Failure to meet these criteria will result in the nomination being deemed ineligible.

8- EDUCATION STAR AWARD (Category opens to Africans only)

Mandatory Criteria
Education Star award is given to a young person who has recorded measurable impact in advancing education in Africa through advocacy, activism, innovation, enterprise, and, institution building.

Failure to meet these criteria will result in the nomination being deemed ineligible.

9- ART AND CULTURE AWARD (Category opens to Africans only)

Mandatory Criteria
Art and Culture award recognizes extraordinary achievement in the promotion and the preservation of the best of African arts and culture. This includes young creators, innovators, designers, artists, and filmmakers.

Failure to meet these criteria will result in the nomination being deemed ineligible.

10- GLOBAL ENVIRONMENT AWARD (Category opens to all nationalities)

Mandatory Criteria
Global Environment Award recognizes outstanding contribution by the individuals, and organizations for helping to improve the management of natural resources, demonstrating new ways to tackle climate change or raising awareness of emerging environmental challenges.

Failure to meet these criteria will result in the nomination being deemed ineligible.

11- AWARD OF EXECELLENCE (Category opens to Africans only)

This prestigious award is not up for nomination but will be selected by the panel of judges.

12- Icon Award (Category opens to Africans only)

This prestigious award is not up for nomination, but will be selected by the panel of judges.
