About YALAWARDS 2023

The 2nd annual Young African Leaders Awards will be held in Morocco from 12-13 May 2023, AYA will organize a two-day event focused on the theme “If the future is to be sustainable, it must be planned collaboratively.” This International Award ceremony strives to offer a professional program that encourages and recognizes the incredible contribution of young people towards the attainment of UN Sustainable Development Goals & Agenda 2063 of the African Union.

The 2023 Young African Leaders Awards categories:

Kwame Nkrumah’s Visionary Leadership

The Award for Visionary Leadership was created to honor the late influential advocate of Pan-Africanism, freedom fighter, and first Prime Minister and President of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah for his outstanding visionary leadership and dedication to united Africa.
This award is the highest recognition that African Youth Architects bestows upon an individual who has exhibited exemplary leadership that benefits young people in Africa and encourages active participation of young people in decision making.

Nelson Mandela's Humanitarian Award

The award for Humanitarian was created to honor the late South African president, a global icon for peace and freedom, NELSON MANDELA for his outstanding leadership for human rights and development. Mandela has contributed greatly to development and human rights across Africa and the whole world.

Nelson Mandela’s Humanitarian Award, recipient must show active civil involvement, commitment to peace building, exemplary dedication to social, environmental and humanitarian causes.
AYA humanitarian is a driven community and national leader who exemplifies altruism.

Young Women of Innovation and Leadership Award

Young Women of Innovation and Leadership Award is presented to recognize young African women leaders in their professions, often entrepreneurial, and inspirational to their peers. The award focuses on young women in the trenches of STEM fields who may be rising in their career or well-established in their professional lives.

YOUNG WOMEN OF INNOVATION AND LEADERSHIP AWARD, recipient must be shaping the future of Africa or serving as a role model for their fellow young women and girls thinking about careers in technology, science, and engineering.
The Award embraced AYA’s vision to empower women and to inspire young African girls to be part of the Change.

Education star Award

The Education Star award is given to a young person who has recorded a measurable impact in advancing education in Africa through advocacy, activism, innovation, enterprise, and institution building.

Art & Culture Award

Art and Culture award recognizes extraordinary achievement in the promotion and the preservation of the best of African arts and culture. This includes young creators, innovators, designers, artists, and filmmakers.

Global Environment Award

Global Environment Award recognizes outstanding contributions by the individuals, and organizations that have focused on unique environmental challenges at a local, regional or national level for helping to improve the management of natural resources, demonstrating new ways to tackle climate change or raising awareness of emerging environmental challenges.

GLOBAL ENVIRONMENT AWARD, recipient must show active civil involvement, commitment to strive to find solutions to various social issues, and work to bring about a sustainable global environment.

Universal Peace Award

The universal Peace Award honors individuals or organizations that have made a significant contribution towards the attainment of world peace.

The universal Peace Award recipient must show active civil involvement, outstanding contribution to sustainable peace, dialogue and social development and has demonstrated his/her capacity to involve local stakeholders.

First-Generation Entrepreneur Award

The first-generation entrepreneur is an entrepreneur who is not in the same line of business as his/her parents.

FIRST-GENERATION ENTREPRENEUR AWARD, recipient should have started the enterprise on their own initiative, idea or innovation”.

An entrepreneur must be a founder/co-founder of an enterprise.

Icon Award

This prestigious award is not up for nomination, but will be selected by the panel of judges.
Our aim is to honor an African who has made considerable innovative and sustainable contributions to the community at the local, regional and national levels through their professional and social roles.

Award of Excellence in Leadership

This prestigious award is not up for nomination, but will be selected by the panel of judges.

The Award of Excellence in Leadership is granted annually to recognize individuals for their outstanding acts, services, or achievements that exemplify and support the development of Africa and valuable contributions in uplifting the African youth.

Innovative Teaching Award

In the new era of education, teachers have to embrace innovative education by effective use of technology and innovative pedagogies to enhance teaching effectiveness and unleash students’ potential.

Innovative Teaching award will be presented to teachers who develop or apply a teaching strategy, approach, technique, or tool that is used in a new way, to improve learner outcomes or the learner experience.

Recipients must document and exhibit the effective use of innovative teaching that results in one or more of the following:

. Increased student performance

. Increased student motivation

. Increased collaboration

. Increased student engagement

Educational Excellence Award

This prestigious education award category will be presented to an African country that has the most inclusive and innovative education system, within the guideline of the UN SDG4. The country should have implemented policies that promote a safe school environment as well as new technology to achieve higher quality and creativity in learning.

Sustainable Agriculture & Food Security Award

This award recognizes individuals committed to growing and sharing skills and knowledge related to sustainable agricultural practices and the vital importance of food security in Africa. They are innovative leaders who not only appreciate, but enjoy teaching others about the food we grow and eat.
Being an outstanding young leader in the field of Sustainable Agriculture & Food Security means:

Innovative Teaching award will be presented to teachers who develop or apply a teaching strategy, approach, technique, or tool that is used in a new way, to improve learner outcomes or the learner experience.

Recipients must document and exhibit the effective use of innovative teaching that results in one or more of the following:

. Demonstrating an appreciation for the food we eat and grow

. Learning about and sharing innovative and sustainable farming practices

. Discovering and putting into practice new ways of improving nutrition and food security

. Exchanging ideas and solutions
